A freight-orientated Midlands scheme employing two decks, recreating the heavy coal traffic which flowed through this unprepossessing Leicestershire town. It was designed by Ian Stock in his preferred N gauge.

The North Eastern Railway built distinctive over-track signal boxes along the Newcastle to Carlisle line, and elements of several (chiefly Wylam) were used to create a 1:148 scale replica, as Peter Brown explains.

Whereas up to a point this works, it does not take into account factors such as the space needed for operating areas nor the normal reach of the operator.
