RM MARCH 2018 ISSUE – VOL.69 NO.809
RAILWAY OF THE MONTH
Dent Station
This location, the highest main line station in England amidst the scenic wonders of the Yorkshire Dales, marks in model form the completion of phase two of Ian Nuttall's mammoth project to model the Settle & Carlisle in the 1930s in OO.
PLAN OF THE MONTH
Marks Tey
This Essex station marks the junction between the former Great Eastern Railway main line - which runs north-east from London to Suffolk and Norfolk - and the branch to Sudbury. Ian Stock considers its potential for modelling, both in the present day and the 1960s.
SCALE DRAWINGS
G&SWR Class 5 0-6-0T
The Glasgow & South Western had a trio of these locomotives, designed by Peter Drummond and used for shunting, as John Treays relates.
EDITORS'S PICK
Crioch
Having already described one of his two small-space-4mm scale layouts which share a common fiddle yard and storage crate (Hudson Street, RM February 2016), Peter Fletcher presents the other, a Highland Railway shed scene inspired by Tain.
INSIDE THIS ISSUE
A Brush with Steam
Eric Bottomley GRA will be recognisable to many as a first class transport artist, but he will not be so well known as a modeller, working in O gauge. Craig Tiley visited him to see more of his layout, Chadbury.
Adapting the Peco 7mm GWR Box Van Kit
Although capable of representing several different types of wagon in itself, the Peco ref. W606 can be given even greater versatility thanks to cast resin ends from Invertrain, as Craig Tiley demonstrates.
Hillbrow
Layout
In search of a different modelling challenge, long-time 3mm scale modeller Steve Fackrell took up narrow gauge modelling, creating this terminus of a fictitious system in OO9.
Building a Helix
Geoff Bell demonstrates how, with careful planning and measurement, a spiral can join two scenic layout levels, or create a link from a ddle yard to a modelled scene. His article has particular emphasis on N gauge.
Hamworthy Junction
Behind Eddie Gibbs' railway room door lies this OO gauge recreation of the point where the original Southampton & Dorchester Railway was joined by later railway development.
Denley
Moor
Pete Latham was inspired to model this N gauge layout, set in the early years of the 21st century, by the rail activity in and around Peak Forest, in the Derbyshire limestone country.
