RAILWAY MODELLER August 2026 Vol.77 No.910

£6.95
August 2026
With a fine summer now upon us, it's time for our annual garden railway feature in Railway of the Month: this year we revisit the Daws Heath Garden Railway, an extensive OO gauge system which previously appeared in the magazine over a quarter of a century ago – in the May 1999 issue – and, remarkably, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Continuing the outdoor railway theme, Bob Hordern shows how he constructed a new, demountable outdoor section to extend his garage-based, U-shaped O gauge layout into a continuous run – weather permitting!

Other layouts featured include Totnes – a spectacular N gauge Great Western Railway main line, which will be making its final public appearance at the Railwells exhibition on 8 & 9 August; the 3mm scale model built by famous artist David Shepherd, part of which is now on display at the East Somerset Railway which he founded; and Nant Gwernol, an OO9 tribute to the Talyllyn Railway, the pioneering line that celebrates 75 years of preservation this year. We also reintroduce our 'Junior Modeller' section with one of the finalists in the 2025 Peco RAIL200 Model Layout Competition, built by 13-year-old Harry Symonds.
Modelling articles include the construction of a Furness Railway 10-ton brake van in OO gauge by Ian Nuttall, a Hull & Barnsley Railway H1 Class 2-4-0 in 7mm scale built by Nick Dunhill in support of a charitable cause, and techniques for making shop fronts in card by Adrian Cook.
New products reviewed include the first London Underground tube train to be offered ready-to-run in N gauge – the 1938 Stock by Revolution Trains – plus curved OO bullhead points and TT:120 LMS vans from Peco.
