RM FEBRUARY 2018 ISSUE – VOL.69 NO.808
RAILWAY OF THE MONTH
Aberdeen Kirkhill - The Sequel
Glenn Daniel updates us on this significantly enlarged OO gauge representation of a 1980s BR Traction & Rolling Stock Depot, set in Eastern Scotland.
PLAN OF THE MONTH
Gimbalton
Peter Osborne devised an ingenious sector plate for his latest OO project, one which can move in three dimensions to service a low level fiddle yard.
SCALE DRAWINGS
G&SWR 119 Class 4-4-0
This class of 24 4-4-0s, built in the Glasgow & South Western Railway works at Kilmarnock, were famed for their work on the hilly route to Greenock in particular. Drawings by W D Stewart, with accompanying text by Tim Rayner.
EDITORS'S PICK
Clifton & Lowther
Childhood memories of watching the West Coast Main Line action at this location led Eric Farragher to recreate them in N gauge.
INSIDE THIS ISSUE
Passage Lane TMD
A diesel depot set in the contemporary era, modelled in OO gauge by Robert Potter and Charlotte Saunderson, both members of the St Neots MRC.
Trafalgar Estates Ltd
Louis Formon imagined a large Lincolnshire-based agricultural system, along the lines of the Nocton Estates railway, which grew to incorporate regular passenger services. Set in 1932, this evocative layout was modelled in OO9.
Burdale Quarry
A minimum-space - in O gauge terms - layout constructed by Tony Kell and representing a 1970s railhead, serving a stone loading facility. Working chutes allow 'empties in, fulls out' operation.
Diagonal Fencing for Dentdale
The characteristic Midland Railway slanted fencing was widespread on the company's system. Ian Nuttall decided to scratchbuild some for his 4mm scale project, based on official drawings.
Edwardian Splendour in 6'x4'
For his Handcross project - which uses Setrack on a solid-top baseboard - Darren Ray was inspired by the work of the Revd. Wilbert Awdry, whose Ffarquhar Branch was featured in RAILWAY MODELLER as long ago as the December 1959 issue.
Scenery in N - the Easy Way!
Some hints and tips on creating rural landscapes in 1:148 scale using established methods, presented by Mick Clarke.
