These delightful ready to run coaches are based on those used on the Glyn Valley Tramway, where they ran without buffers. One was transferred to the Tallyllyn Railway where buffers were added and we offer both these variants. We have added a Freelance Brake Coach to the range for those wishing to make up a complete train.

Trains of slate wagons used to be gravity run from the quarries at Blaenau Ffestiniog to the harbour at Porthmadoc, this model pack of 3 ready to run wagons includes 1 braked vehicle and removable slate loads which are conveniently hollow, thus giving the modeller the added option of including some further weight if required.
Roughly one in five wagons was fitted with brakes. These were spread throughout the train and turned so the brake handles were all on the same side of the train, pointing towards Porthmadog. Different colours painted on the side bars denoted the various slate quarry companies; our packs feature random selections of these. These can be pulled out with fine nosed pliers and replaced with conventional OO-9 hoop-and-loop couplings (supplied) at each end of the rake.

Splendid White Metal 0-16.5 body kit with comprehensive step by step instructions of a widely used much loved prototype. Many were built for the slate quarries of N Wales but found their way all over the world. Extremely well detailed, includes cab detail - a must in this scale. Use the Branchlines BL-1 chassis for this kit.

These semi-permanent close-couplings fit in the NEM pockets on all our 009 rolling stock. They can replace the conventional 009 hoop-and-loop couplings by pulling them out with fine nosed pliers. Our slate wagons sets GR-320 and 321 are already fitted with these closer couplings; spare conventional 009 couplings are included with them to enable them to be coupled to a loco etc.

The Branchlines (TM) chassis kits featured here are specially designed to fit the Peco 0-16.5 Locomotive Body kits and are complete with wheels and high quality can motors.
