Water Crane and Fire Devil

Stations often had these Water Cranes at the end of the platforms so the locomotives could be refilled without detaching them from the train. Also included is a coke brazier, called a 'fire devil' to keep the cast iron pipe from freezing up during the winter. These cranes were usually supplied by a large water tank (see Ratio 506 and 551 and Wills SS34 kits). Used for loading goods onto wagons, these cranes were to be found by bay platforms in small stations with no goods sheds or in the yard of larger stations. 16 Telegraph poles, these also carried railway bell codes and phone connections between signal boxes and stations as well as GPO lines. Height 100mm

Chequer Plate

These sheets are invaluable for scratchbuilding, saving many hours of repetitive work creating the various surface patterns and textures. They are the same as those used in the Craftsman kits to make extension work easier.
