Sutton's Locomotive Workshop has revealed that it is producing ready-to-run models of the British Rail Class 25 in 4mm scale. Final working approved livery samples of the models are illustrated here, with production due to start in March.
Following the SLW Class 24 model (see review RM July 2020), the Class 25 models will be equipped with features including engine room and cab interior lighting, illuminated interchangeable headcodes, glowing driver’s desk instrument panel, sprung buffers with ‘grease mark’ depictions, double-speaker sound system, and five-pole motor with all-wheel electrical wiper pick-up and drive.
Liveries for the initial batch will comprise 25324 in BR Blue (Cat No. 2533), D7599 in two-tone green (Cat No. 2536), 25322 ‘Tamworth Castle’ in BR blue with yellow cabs (Cat No. 2531) and a second variant of ‘Tamworth Castle’ this time as D7672 in two-tone green with full yellow ends, with etched name plates (Cat No. 2532).
Four further liveries will follow after the release of the first batch, including 97252 'ETHEL' in BR Blue & Grey (Cat No. 2540). It has also been suggested that Cornish and Scottish variants of the class will be available at a later date.
Pricing starts from £185.00 for DCC ready versions up to £295.00 for sound-fitted models, with optional extras including a pre-installed SC68 6,800µf super-capacitor at £30.00 and factory fitted EM or P4 alternative wheel options at £20.00.
