Rapido Trains UK announce SECR Open wagons in OO

Rapido Trains UK has announced a suite of South Eastern & Chatham Railway open wagons in OO. Three versions are currently planned which cover one diagram of seven-plank open and two diagrams of five-plank open.

Over 2,000 seven-plank opens of this type were built by the SECR between 1915 and 1927. Built on a standard steel frame, many of the wagons passed into SR ownership were they were given the diagram 1355. To complement the seven-plank wagon, Rapido UK will also be offering the similar five-plank version. 550 were built to SR diagram 1347, with a further 150 near-identical wagons built to SR diagram 1349 - sharing the same standard frame as the seven-plank. Both types survived into British Railways service, with the last diagram 1347/1349 wagons withdrawn in the 1960s, with some seven-planks lasted into the 1970s.

Tooling for the wagons will allow key detail variation to be produced, covering SECR and SR sheet rails and two buffer types. Other specification included, detailed underframes, metal wheel sets, metal cup bearings and NEM couplings. SECR, SR and BR liveries are planned, each priced at £32.95 with an expect delivery date of early 2022.

Pre-orders can be placed through all Rapido Trains Uk stockists, as well as direct from the manufacturer’s website, with the order book closes on September 1st 2021;
