Bachmann Europe Plc has published its latest programme of new models that are planned for release during this Summer as part of the manufacturer’s Branchline (OO), Narrow Gauge (OO9), Graham Farish (N) and Scenecraft ranges.
2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the introduction of the Sulzer Type 2 Bo-Bo Class 24 to the Bachmann Branchline range. To mark the occasion the Barwell manufacture has announced all-new tooling of the 24/0 and 24/1 variants of the class with disc headcodes in OO, which utilise the latest mechanism from the firm’s four character headcode Class 24/1 models (see review, RM March 2020).
Four versions of the 24/0 & 24/1 are planned comprising 24/0s D5036 in BR green with small yellow panels and No.24035 in BR blue; and 24/1s D5094 in BR green with silver grills and No.97201 ‘Experiment’ in BR Railway Technical Centre blue and red. Each version will be available DCC ready or with factory sound-fitted.
A new livery version of a Class 20/3 presented as No.20314 in Harry Needle Railroad Company orange and black (available DCC ready or factory sound fitted) joins the line-up, making an ideal partner for previously released No.20311 in the same guise.
Sound-fitted V2s in OO gauge steam releases
Factory fitted-sound options of the forthcoming all new tooling Gresley LNER V2 2-6-2s have been announced; liveries comprise No.4791 in LNER lined green; No.60845 in BR lined black with early emblem; No.60847 ‘St Peter’s School’ in BR lined green with late crest. It should be noted that the manufacturer’s factory fitted sound models are operable on 12v dc analogue control (albeit with limited functionality).
A further livery version of the LMS 4P Compound 4-4-0 presented as No.1119 in LMS Crimson Lake is also set to join the range, joining a selection of previously announced BR black versions.
BR Intercity Mk2F stock in OO
An undoubted highlight of the OO gauge rolling stock releases is the release of BR Mk2F coaching stock in BR Intercity (swallow) livery. A pair of Brake Second Open (BSO), pair of Tourist Second Open (TSO) and First Open (FO) coaches have been confirmed.
In addition there is a single BR Mk1 POT Post Office Stowage Van in BR blue and grey; 14T Class A anchor-mounted tank wagon in ‘National Benzole’ silver with weathered finish; BR 45T TTA in ‘ESSO’ grey; plus a pair of 24T ore hopper wagons in selection of colourful private owner liveries, including ‘Cadbury Bournville’ yellow.
Class 60 Upgrade planned in N gauge releases
Despite no new additions to the manufacturer’s Graham Farish range this quarter, work is currently underway on engineering upgrades for the British Rail Class 60, which will allow for sound fitted versions of the model to be produced for the first time. The announcement follows the reveal of 60002 in GBRF blue and orange livery, baring the name ‘Graham Farish 50th Anniversary 1970 - 2020’ complete with Graham Farish logos on the cab sides (see new, RM May 2021 for further details). Its also hinted there are some exciting developments in the pipeline for the brand, for future announcement.
Passenger Stock for OO9
The summer 2021 range see the addition of the first items of passenger roiling stock for the manufacturer’s OO9 Narrow Gauge range. Two steel bodied Third Class bogie coaches have been announced, unitising existing tooling from the Liliput European brand. Finished in maroon & cream and lined green, the models are priced at £44.95, with expected delivery during June/July 2021.
New Scenecraft items in OO and N
The Scenecraft range sees a selection of new additions to the growing range of hand-finished resin builds and accessories, with new items including two road stone engine shed, a suite railway stables structures inspired by the Southern Railway stables at bricklayers arms, Bermondsey in London plus low-relief Hamilton Toy Museum. Other OO releases include low-relief 1930’s semi detached houses (also available in N) and welded storage tank, along with pair of concrete ballast bins. For N gauge there are further low-relief models, including police station and fire station, other structures and accessories include a toilet block, 6ft garden fences and concrete platform lamps.
Exclusive ‘London Transport’ 20s in OO
The latest limited edition model to be produced exclusively for Bachmann Collectors Club members is a pair of English Electric Class 20s, finished as No.20227 ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and No.20412 ‘Sir John Betjeman’ in eye-catching London Transport maroon livery, in association with the London Transport museum. Fitted with factory sound, each version is limited to just 160 models. Refer to the manufacturer’s website for more details about BCC membership.
