Essex-based manufacture - Cavalex Models has announced plans to produce newly-tooled Class 56 in OO.
A total of 135 examples were introduced between1976 and 1984. The first 30 locomotives were built by Electroputere in Romania, with the remaining 105 locomotives constructed by British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL) at Doncaster and Crewe Works. Tooling will cater for the four main design variants, allowing for all 135 locomotives to be accurately produced.
Specifications for models includes all wheel drive, drop in EM/P4 wheel sets (to be available separately), operational roof fans, 5 pole motor with twin flywheels and a heavy metal chassis, 21-pin DCC socket with provision for an EM2 speaker. DCC sound and ‘stay alive’ options are also planned.
12 versions of the 56 have been confirmed; covering BR Blue (including small and large logo variants), BR Railfreight grey (with and without red stripe), BR Sectorisation grey (including coal , metals and construction) and Loadhaul black/orange.
The model is currently at the tooling stage, with 3D printed samples expected soon. Prices and release date TBC - with models exclusively available from Cavalex retailers.
