The standard box wagon was a key component of British goods traffic from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century. Built with a fully enclosed wooden or steel body, these wagons protected cargo such as machinery, tools, textiles, and non-perishable food from weather and theft. Early versions were unfitted, while later models under British Railways included vacuum brakes for safer operation.
