This common type of station water tower can be used either platform or ground mounted and is supplied with stove, drain, hose and etched ladder. The stove was used to stop the water freezing in the crane arm. Can also supply other platform mounted water cranes (Ratio Water Crane and Fire Devil Ref 212). In the days when everything came by rail, even the smallest goods yard would provide a facility for the local coal merchant next to a siding. Many goods yards had weigh bridges so that the 'carriage price' of a load to be carried by rail could be costed. Goods were then loaded into the goods shed.
